Deconstructed food is an art form; a style of preparation that is playful ,different and absolutely delicious, with each component its own complete masterpiece. What deconstructed food is not is all the ingredients of a dish splayed out like an assembly line with an instructional sheet.
The trend has been growing and morphing for years. And now Chennai has its part to play for some deconstruction in a good way.
What is spectacular about this place, is the amount of detailing and innovation put rightly only on the FOOD and its taste. The cafe is located at the KNK road, a part of the Slate hotels , at 1st floor with very good lighting and minimalist decor.
This place is a 100% Vegetarian ( all desserts are #eggless)
#Corn Vada which crisp on the outside with a soft and chewy interior. Worked well as a starter.
#CHEESE LOVERS SAMOSAS…because one type of cheese, just won’t do. We’re going with THREE! Mozzarella. Cream cheese. and third one i forgot 😛 . Cradled in the crunchiest, pastry pocket. Can we just cut to the chase and deem this the real “Love Triangle” already?
#Idli is the healthy component, but its fried and served with a well mashed not so sweet, yet mild sweet beetroot patty and dash of spicy mayo . ( We ordered this twice,:P)
#The most interesting dish of my meal there was the Dhokla Fondue. The quintessential flavours of a Gujarat favourite snack – Dhokla is perfectly married with the creamy, gooey goodness of a bubbling cheese fondue.
#In the the process of making lasagna extremely cheesy, the cafe has replaced the pasta sheets, with cheese sheets and as named them Auzania . ( ok, this is some serious de-construction) but it was not heavy as imagined, all thanks to the perfectly cooked vegetables.
#In the beverages, THE GREEN APPLE SPARKLER was yum, the slight tartness in them is what i adore. THE CROISSANT IN A MUG was another eyebrow raiser, where you can drink a sweet decoction coffee, and scoop in some soft puff pastry.
I’m the kind of gal that when you tell me something is flavored a particular way I don’t want to take a bite and have to go searching for the flavor, I want it to practically scream at me. I don’t want to be able to miss the awesomeness and I don’t want you to miss it either. So a bite of this cheesecake is like a big Oreo kick in the mouth. There’s no holding back , HANDS DOWN.
The salted caramel tart was an arm and leg for the quantity and its taste.
The service was neat, but a couple of my friends did face some hiccups. I dined during their soft launch and was pretty impressed. The bill rounded up to Rs.2,500 for all the above mentioned . A proper 3 course shared meal would come around 1k.
